Dysthyroid Eye Disease
Not Routinely Funded
Norfolk and Waveney ICB policy clarifies the responsibilities of ICBs and NHSE in the commissioning and funding of Dysthyroid Eye Disease.
Treatment for mild disease is primarily medical, not surgical, and is not routinely funded by Norfolk and Waveney ICB.
The treatment of mild disease is mostly self-management, optimising the patient’s thyroid status
For moderate or severe disease, NHS England is the responsible commissioner.
Disease severity is assessed using the EUGOGO criteria – EUGOGO-2021-guidelines-pdf.pdf (Table 3)

Cases for Individual Consideration
On a case to case basis, patients might be eligible for surgical intervention, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
