Arthroscopic Shoulder Decompression for Subacromial Shoulder Pain (Keyhole surgery to relieve shoulder pain)
(Treatment of Shoulder Pain)
Patients suffering with persistent symptoms of subacromial shoulder impingement, despite appropriate non-operative management should be given the option to choose decompression surgery.
Note: Subacromial shoulder impingement means subacromial pain not caused by associated diagnoses such as rotator cuff tears, acromio-clavicular joint pain, or calcific tendinopathy. Non-operative treatment such as physiotherapy and exercise programmes are effective and safe in many cases.
Cases for Individual Consideration (Patients who do not meet the policy criteria)
On a case to case basis, patients might be eligible for surgical intervention, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
