Not all clinical procedures, medicines, therapies or devices are routinely available to NHS patients.  However there may be a situation where a clinician believes that their patients clinical situation is so different to other patients with the same condition that they should have their treatment funded when other patients would not.

In cases such as this, the clinician would be required to make an Individual Funding Request (IFR) application on behalf of their patient. An IFR application can only be made by a clinician responsible for your care, this is usually your secondary care (hospital) clinician, if they believe and can clearly demonstrate that the request is clinically exceptional.  Once the IFR application has been submitted, Norfolk & Waveney ICB will liaise with the referring clinician to let them know how things are progressing, and the decision outcome.

The IFR non-drugs referral form can be found on Ardens or in the Healthcare Professionals section
