Threshold
Conservative management may include rest from precipitating activities and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, injection of hydrocortisone into the tissue IN FRONT of the tendon at the level of the distal palmar crease metacarpophalangeal joint (MCPJ) will often settle early cases.
Patients managed in primary care may benefit from advice and conservative treatment that includes:
- Rest from activities that aggravate the condition (if that is an option for the patient)
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for relieving any pain and inflammation.
- Corticosteroid injections, with local anaesthetic.
Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board will fund referral for surgical treatment if the following criteria can be met:
- The patient has failed to respond to conservative measures, including no response following 1-3 corticosteroid injections.
Cases for Individual Funding Consideration (Patients who do not meet the policy criteria)
On a case to case basis, patients might be eligible for surgical intervention, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
