Plantar Fasciitis

pain on the bottom of foot around heel & arch

Threshold

NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board will only fund referral to Secondary Care for suspected plantar fasciitis if symptoms are severe, recurrent or causing significant problems and conservative treatments have not worked for one year.

Conservative treatments include rest, ice application, simple analgesics, stretching exercises, podiatry, orthoses or strapping and night splints.

Reassurance should be given that 70% of people with plantar fasciitis will make a complete recovery within one year.

Cases for Individual Funding Consideration (Patients who do not meet the policy criteria)

On a case to case basis, patients might be eligible for funding, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
