Tonsillectomy for Sleep Disordered Breathing and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea for Adults

Norfolk and Waveney ICB will fund treatment for Tonsillectomy for Sleep Disordered Breathing/Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in adults where there is evidence of grade 4 tonsils (where the tonsils reach each other and extend to the midline. This is the most enlarged size of tonsils as these take up more than 75% of the airways).

Tonsillectomy will not be funded as a treatment for snoring.

Cases for Individual Funding Consideration (Patients who do not meet the policy criteria)

On a case-to-case basis, patients might be eligible for surgical intervention, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
